Equity-Based Campaigns

Challenging discrimination and oppression to build an inclusive, equitable campus.

About This Campaign

UTM is a diverse community of students united by the goal of obtaining a post-secondary education. Equity-based campaigns aim to challenge all forms of discrimination and oppression on our campuses, in our communities, and in student organizing spaces.

Racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, Islamophobia, antisemitism, and other forms of oppression can affect how people access post-secondary education and perpetuate inequities based on gender, race, socio-economic status, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, citizenship status, and other factors.

UTMSU aims to create a campus free of discrimination by

  • Educating members on what systems of oppression look like, sound like, and feel like
  • Advertising resources available to challenge systems of oppression
  • Hosting know-your-rights workshops and creating spaces to discuss experiences and tools for organizing
  • Advocating for policy changes and protections for students on and off campus
