About the Plan
UTMSU Health & Dental
UTMSU provides affordable and comprehensive health and dental coverage to all full-time undergraduate students at the University of Toronto Mississauga campus. The health and dental plans are provided through Green Shield Canada, the only national not-for-profit insurance provider in Canada with the support of the National Student Health Network.
Full-time UTM undergraduate students are automatically enrolled in the UTMSU plan. Depending on your registration, the plan provides extended health and dental coverage for up to 12 months, from September 1 to August 31, annually. The plans cover medical expenses that are not covered by the provincial government, therefore, they are supplementary to coverage under OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan) or UHIP (University Health Insurance Plan), not a substitute.
Please note: The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is only for those who do not have access to private dental insurance or coverage through a professional or student organization.

Submit a Health or Dental Claim
Direct Billing
Some health and dental providers may be able to submit claims electronically on your behalf. In this case, provide them with your policy number and they can send a claim to the insurance provider for the amount covered by the plan. You will then only need to pay the remaining balance upfront.
Online Claims
When health and dental providers are unable to directly bill on your behalf, they will have you pay for your treatment out-of-pocket in full. If this happens, you may submit eligible claims for reimbursement online at your Green Shield Canada+ account. Your GSC+ Account is where you can manage your UTMSU health and dental benefits plan!
Student Centre
The Green Shield Canada Student Centre is your resource for your health and dental benefit plans.
Haven't registered yet? You'll need to register your ID number UTMyourstudent#-00 and create a user account. Please see the brochure above for instructions on registering for an account.

Disclaimer, Blackout Period
A blackout period primarily applies to all incoming students who were not registered under the UTMSU health and dental plans in the previous academic year. However, in some cases, upper-year students also experience blackout periods if they deferred/paid their fees late.
During this period, you will not be able to access your benefit coverage and submit claims. Any health and dental services received during the blackout period can be resubmitted for claim reimbursement after the blackout period, as long as you remain a full-time student at UTM. The blackout period ends shortly after the UTM confirms your academic enrollment.
